Judicial Experience Matters
When the people of Broward County first elected me to the County Court Bench, I was the youngest elected judge in Florida. Today, I am now the longest serving Circuit Court Judge in the State. I have seen it all- presiding over hundreds of thousands of cases and trials: from traffic tickets or small claims and misdemeanors, to major criminal cases and currently complex civil litigation. I was also recently the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) Judge of the Year 2018.
For almost 40 years, what I hoped to accomplish as a judge was to maintain a courtroom where everyone receives – and believes they receive – a day in court presided over by a judge who is knowledgeable about the facts and law of their case, who is willing to truly listen to the presentation of their cause, and who will rule fairly and efficiently without bias or prejudice. I hope those before me will feel, whether they win or lose, that they were able to present their case.
I believe my reputation as a fair, patient, prepared, respectful, and unbiased jurist to all who appear before me- whether they be lawyers, litigants, jurors, witnesses, court personnel or members of the general public- is my greatest strength. When the public has confidence in the judiciary, they are more likely to respect the ruling issued by the court when they bring their conflicts for resolution.
Since you first put your trust in me, I have worked hard to fulfill my commitment to you to administer fair and efficient justice in our community. I have presided over every type of case imaginable and am ready to preside over the unimaginable that these tumultuous times present. I have the energy and enthusiasm to continue my lifetime of service to the court and my community.
