Sun-Sentinel Endorsement:  Smart and Experienced, Incumbent Judge Patti Henning is the best choice, Group 18

Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board, June 14, 2020

Henning is clearly the better choice. Henning is the longest-serving circuit court judge in Florida and is running on her record. The veteran jurist is smart and no-nonsense. Because of those traits and her vast experience, Chief Judge Tutor has kept [Judge] Henning in the Complex Civil Division, where she has handled many of  Broward’s most challenging civil cases over the last decade. They include those arising from the shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

“I run a very efficient courtroom,” she said in her Sun-Sentinel questionnaire. In fact, Henning said, it’s been her skill in dealing with complicated litigation that has enabled many other judges to keep their caseloads manageable.

What the Broward County Circuit Court needs most at the moment is “stability and confidence in the judiciary,” Henning said in her questionnaire.

We agree with Henning’s assessment. She has a long and accomplished record of handling tough cases with a strong mind and firm hand. Her professionalism explains why she’s gone unchallenged longer than any judge in Florida. She has earned another term.
